Most Common Used Part Replacements of 2016

Commonly Replaced Parts 2016

Buying a car is one cost, maintaining it is another. Even a brand new car will eventually need parts replacing. However, some there are some parts that suffer more wear and tear than others. Replacements can also depend on how aggressively the car is driven and whether it’s used off road.

Here’s a look at some of the most common car parts that need replacing more frequently.

Oil/Oil Filters

These should be changed every 4,000 miles or so to ensure the vehicle continues to run smoothly and to prevent engine damage.

Air Filters

Dirt and debris can build up over time, so air filters should be changed every 40,000 miles, sooner if you drive off-road.

Manual cars suffer more friction due to the constant gear changing which will eventually wear down the clutch. This will usually need to be replaced after 100,000 miles, much sooner if you’re a serial gear cruncher.

Shock Absorbers

If only all roads were smooth asphalt. Although British roads aren’t in too bad condit
ion, frequent driving down bumpy country lanes or on off-road surfaces can alter the balance of your car and wear down the shock absorbers. If you notice a difference in the balance, you should get the shocks changed immediately to prevent more serious suspension problems.

Brake Pads

It’s recommended your brake pads should be changed at around 60,000 miles, however, if you do a lot of town and city driving, constant stopping and starting in heavy traffic will wear out the brake pads far sooner.

The brake cylinders will also erode over time, and will need changing every 100,000 miles.

Smaller parts shouldn’t be too expensive, however, a regular service will ensure small problems don’t escalate into larger, more costly repairs and replacements.
